Baylor Opera Theatre: Listen, Wilhelmina!

Baylor Opera Theatre presents Listen, Wilhelmina!, with music by David Hanlon and libretto by Assistant Professor of Vocal Coaching Kathleen Kelly.  This event receives recital credit.

Entrance to the Museum is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $8 for children 12 and under, and free for Baylor students. The opera is included with the price of admission to the museum. The museum’s hours on Saturday are 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

About Listen, Wilhelmina!
Listen, Wilhelmina! was commissioned by the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts in 2017, and has been performed at the Wolf Trap Opera Festival and at the Kansas City Lyric Opera with chamber orchestra and a cast including the character of the Maestro. The version of Listen, Wilhelmina! presented today has been reworked for piano, rather than chamber orchestra, with the role of the Maestro having been converted into the role of the Very Famous Singer. Baylor Opera Theatre is thrilled to have the honor of presenting the world premiere of this new, loveable version of Listen, Wilhelmina!

Synopsis:
Wombat children Wallis and Winston greet each other and discuss the upcoming concert that they are about to see. Wilhelmina, a new wombat friend, joins the pair, and the three wonder what the concert will be like. Soon, Mister Nat arrives and lets the children – and the audience – know what they can expect. Together, the children learn about listening, and they learn to clap and say “Bravo” to say thank you to the singer. Soon the Very Famous Singer arrives, and the wombats experience the concert in three different ways. The children learn that having different opinions and preferences about music is a-okay, and each member of the group realizes that they all have their own musical abilities that they can feel free to explore and enjoy. The opera ends with the wombats thanking the Very Famous Singer – and the audience – for sharing the concert, and everyone gets to practice their new word: Bravo!
